Facebooks’ business and marketing partnerships Vice President, David Fisher in August announced that the company is planning to bring ads to the platform. But Fisher did not specify the way that ads will be placed over the messenger app. Recently, WhatsApp VP Chris Daniels made it clear to the audience that WhatsApp will bring ads under the ‘Status’ section of the app.

On Wednesday, Daniels has announced that the Facebook-owned firm will put the advertisements in the Status section.

“We are going to be putting ads in ‘Status.’ That is going to be primary monetization model for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp,” announced Chris Daniels.

The news of putting ads in the messenger app has been for a while now, and WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton who made his exit from the company also revealed about the plans of the company to put ads inside WhatsApp.

The report says that the advertisements that will soon hit the status section of the messenger app will be in addition to the WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp launched the Business API in August. These businesses were charged by the company to make them reach out the customers.

“Currently, we’re approaching monetization in two ways. In August, we launched the WhatsApp Business API, which enables large companies like MakeMyTrip to send information like tickets to users on WhatsApp. Businesses pay to send those messages,” Daniels told the reporters.

“In the future, we’ll place ads in WhatsApp Status, which is our Stories feature. We think this is an appropriate place for ads within WhatsApp. WhatsApp will remain free for people to use and we remain fully committed to end-to-end encryption. With our full set of features in place for both people and businesses, we believe WhatsApp will continue to contribute to economic growth here in India.”
